Course Information

The QCF Framework
All our courses are part of the Qualification Credit Framework (QCF), a new framework for recognising and accrediting the qualifications in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.  This Framework is at the heart of recent reforms in vocational qualifications.  The QCF framework is designed to simplify and make the whole vocational qualification system easier to understand, and with the QCF, qualifications are not only more relevant to the needs of employers but also highly flexible for learners.

How our training works

We start with classroom-based theoretical training using HABIA's own training materials for individual units, the next stage for most units is practising on training heads.  When both Assessors and you feel that you are ready, you will then start performing services on real clients in the salon or barbers, under supervision.  Throughout your course duration you may perform up to 100 client services which will give you a great deal of salon/barbers experience, we do not push anyone into this.  We provide one-to-one tuition and additional support where required, we have additional resources and support for people with Dyslexia or other learning difficulties.  We also provide individual learning plans, and progress is tracked with periodic reviews.

Course Durations

Although this varies from one person to the next, the barbering courses are typically completed within approximately 45 days, the hairdressing courses within 60 days. From the first day, students have 12 months to complete their course, (for the Level 2 or Level 3 Hairdressing  + Barbering Combined courses students who can only attend 1 day a week may have this extended).  If you reach the 12 months (hairdressing/barbering only) and you have not completed your course you will have the option to continue, in which case additional fees will apply.  Remember, with our flexible attendance you can attend up to 5 days a week, so the more you attend the quicker you can qualify.
National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) are work-based awards that are achieved through assessment and training. To achieve an NVQ, candidates must prove competence to the required standard as set out in the National Occupational Standards which describe the competencies expected in the applicable job role.
